Field purpose

A current, provider-aware setup path that gets a family ready before build time, including age gates, privacy controls, the first TCCA rep, and a no-wait fallback.

routes

Choose an allowed route

A parent checks the provider's current rules before account setup. ReInvent U starts at age 13, and every external age gate still applies.

  1. ReInvent U

    Age 13 launch floor

The family waits until the builder is at least 13. An adult does not create a workaround account for a younger child.

  2. Ages 13-17

    Parent-mediated teen route

A parent or guardian completes Tool-Up, gives any required consent, reviews the provider settings, and stays responsible for account and sharing decisions. Claude.ai remains 18+.

  3. Age 18

    Adult account route

The builder may hold an adult account where the provider allows it. Family privacy, evidence, and safety rules still apply.

  4. Every account

    Check the live rule

Provider age, region, feature, and family-control rules can change. The official links in this guide are the source of truth.

Provider quick paths

Pick one path that is allowed for the builder's age and region. Free access is enough to begin, subject to provider limits.

  1. ChatGPT

    Ages 13-17 with parent consent

OpenAI requires parent or guardian consent for teen use. A parent links parental controls where available and reviews safety and data settings with the builder.

  2. Gemini

Age 13 or the local applicable age

Use an eligible personal or school account only where Gemini is available. A parent checks the live country, account-type, and feature rules before the builder signs in.

  3. Claude.ai

    Age 18 and older only

Anthropic's consumer product requires users to be 18 or older. A builder aged 13-17 chooses an allowed alternative.

checklist

The five-minute account check

A parent completes these controls before the builder runs the first prompt.

  1. Identity

    Use the correct account holder

Follow the provider's age and consent route. Never enter a false birth date.

  2. Privacy

    Review data controls

Turn off model-improvement sharing where the family prefers and where the provider offers that control. Know how to delete a chat.

  3. Sharing

    Keep links private by default

Do not create public share links for chats containing names, personal details, school material, or private family information.

  4. Boundaries

    Set the red-data rule

No passwords, home address, private account numbers, health details, secret keys, or another person's private information.

  5. Support

    Know the exit

The builder can stop, close the tool, and bring any strange or upsetting output to a trusted adult.

Field panel 04

framework

Run the first safe rep

Use a harmless, real task to confirm the account works and practise direction.

  1. Task

    Three project options

Ask for small builds based on a hobby or household need.

  2. Context

    Give interests, not identity

Share the interest and available time, not a full name, school, location, or private details.

  3. Constraints

    Small and useful

Require phone-friendly, free-tool, one-weekend ideas with an obvious check.

  4. Action

    Choose and explain

Ask for a table, then the builder chooses one and says why.

Copy, adapt, direct

Give me three small build ideas connected to [interest] that could help [a family member / a team / a club]. Each must be possible with free tools, safe to share, and small enough for one weekend. Show the user, outcome, first step, and how I could check it worked. Do not choose for me.

Builder field drill - AI street smarts

AI is powerful precisely because it can sound certain and act quickly. Power users keep the speed and add a short check: Pause, verify, then act.

  1. Claims

Confident is not the same as correct

Open the original source, check its date and context, and leave a claim unresolved when the evidence is missing.

  2. Media

    Check before you share

A synthetic image, audio clip, or video can look real. Find the earliest source, compare trusted reporting, and label uncertainty instead of amplifying it.

  3. Pressure

    Urgency plus secrecy means pause

If a message pushes you to click, pay, move an account, or hide it from someone, stop and verify through a known route with a trusted adult.

  4. Identity

    Share the minimum personal information

Remove names, location, account details, faces, private conversations, and other people's information unless there is a clear need and permission.

  5. Agents

    Small permissions, visible checks

Give an automated tool only the permission it needs, test it on harmless examples, keep a log, set a stop limit, and require human approval before an outside action.

Field panel 06

routes

No-wait fallback

A rate limit or unavailable feature is a tool problem, not a builder failure.

  1. Switch

    Move to another allowed provider

Carry the same TCCA brief across. Note what changed and what stayed portable.

  2. Reorder

    Do the human step first

Interview the user, sketch the flow, collect source material, or write the success checks while access resets.

  3. Shrink

    Use a lighter task

Ask for one small transformation or question instead of a long generation.

  4. Record

    Make the switch count

Add the tool switch to the learning-velocity record: old move, new move, and what the builder learned.

Keep it in the field

Print it, mark it, return to the build.
